Langeberg
huge folds of molten rock dough revealed
covered in almost impenetrable tall proteas and cone bushes that claw and swallow up fellow hikers
rough ridge lines mock man’s measure of time and distance
The wet wind argues loudly with the tent and, when eventually exhausted, reveals a star studded boundless black
The southern slopes show the mountains softer side
untroubled water pools, quenching tired bodies
king proteas quietly blush pink
ericas, restios, lobelia in abundance
crushed buchus share peppermint, liquorice and clove
Huge slabs of rock gently cradle flower cascades in thin cracks, offering not much more than a space to flourish
a clear reminder to me how wonderful it is to live light.
